Javier Jordán MSc

“Lecture: Innovative Bridge Designs: Improving functionality, aesthetics, and durability”

Javier is the technical director of Pedelta’s bridge group and has over 17 years of experience as a structural designer and team leader, managing medium to long-span bridge projects and other heavy civil en gineering structures such as tanks and tunnels. Together with Juan Sobrino he has pushed forward the introduction of advanced materials in bridge construction such as GFRP and stainless steel.

Javier’s experience includes structural engineering, analysis, conceptual design and final detailing of bridges, preparation and supervision of drawings, and technical specifications. As a bridge designer, Javier has an extensive background in structural analysis and has conducted advanced time-dependent structural analysis models and complex construction analysis of steel and major segmental and cable-supported concrete bridges, including finite element analysis, modeling and seismic design using Caltrans specifications. He is also familiar with the application of Accelerated Bridge Construction Techniques.

Since 2010, Javier is mostly involved in the conceptual design of major concrete and steel bridges including cast-in-place or precast segmental construction, incrementally launched bridges, and cable supported structures. He has a practical filed experience for medium and long span bridges as well as pile foundations and substructures.

Javier has a long and proven experience in Design-and-Build and PPP bridge projects in North-America. He has provided engineering services during the tender phases, detailed final design and technical support during construction to provide cost-effective and aesthetically pleasant solutions.

Javier participated in the constructability analysis for tendering of the Nipigon cablestayed bridge, Burgoyne arch bridge and other Design-and-Build and PPP projects in North-America including the preparation of the tender bid for the cable-stayed bridge of Goethals- with a main span of 870 ft and the bridges for the Fresno-Madero segment of the high-speed rail in California.

He has also recently been involved in the preparation of the tender concept design for the New St. Lawrence Bridge in Montreal with the constructability analysis for the SNC lavalin-Flatiron-Dragados DBJV that has been awarded with the project. Javier is currently participating to the design of deck and hangers installation of the signature arch Walterdale Bridge in Edmonton, AB with the main span of 206m. Javier is author or co-author of over 25 publications
